10 of the Best Summer Sale Finds Under $50

Now that August is upon us, we can no longer ignore the sad fact that most of the summer is behind us. And while that is pretty depressing, the one good thing about this time of year is that all of our favorite stores and brands put their merchandise on sale–sometimes up to 70% off. So, in the spirit of Cher Horowitz, we’re solving our end-of-summer-blues with a little retail therapy.

Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton Meet Again, Swap Colour Palettes

The Olympics are finally here, and Kate Middleton and Michelle Obama both deserve gold medals in our minds. While their respective countries’ Opening Ceremonony uniforms garnered some criticism (the US Ralph Lauren uniforms for not being made in US and England’s for making the athletes look like ABBA), we can’t find any fault with these two style ambassadors.

The pair met up on the first night of Olympics festivities on Friday, and it’s the first time these two have been in the same room since May 2011. So how did their outfits coordinate and compare?

The FLOTUS debuted a skirt and embroidered jacket combo from J.Mendel’s 2013 resort collection (pic on left) and Kate Middleton wore an icy blue Christopher Kane coat dress. The two have sort of flipped color palettes and sleeve shapes since their last meeting, when Mobama was the one in shiny blue.

Which one of these stylish ladies took home the gold on opening night? 🙂

Olympians Like Fashion, Too: The Athletes of Team USA Show Us Their Style

The Olympics start this Friday, and one of the best parts of any Olympics (besides ogling the male divers–admit that you do this) is getting to know the athletes and learning their stories as they progress through the games.

Cat Deeley In Matthew Williamson – FOX All-Star Party

Cat Deeley joined Lea Michele and Zooey Deschanel on the red carpet for the FOX All-Star Party in West Hollywood, California yesterday evening.

The British TV host wore a British designer donning a digital floral-print Matthew Williamson dress from the Spring 2012 collection.

Her one shoulder draped dress was styled with towering gold Christian Loubotuin sandals, a metallic box clutch and shoulder-grazing earrings.

Signature glossy straight locks completed her look.

Milla Jovovich In Arzu Kaprol – Mandarin Oriental Bodrum Opening

Milla Jovovich recently attended the opening of the Mandarin Oriental Bodrum in Turkey.

The ‘Resident Evil’ actress wore a Spring 2012 gown by Turkish designer Arzu Kaprol.

Her strapless printed dress with a gathered detail along the bust was simply styled with a gold clutch and red-hot lips.

I love the dress on the model, mostly because of how the thin ribbons managed to give the gown some shape.

Unfortunately that didn’t translate so well off the runway.

Zooey Deschanel In Paule Ka – FOX All-Star Party

Zooey Deschanel joined Lea Michele on the red carpet for the FOX All-Star Party in West Hollywood, California yesterday evening.

The ‘New Girl’ actress wore a signature fit-and-flare dress from Paule Ka’s Fall 2012 collection.

Black pumps were paired with her metallic gold jacquard sleeveless cocktail dress with bow detail.

Even though I wish she shoe choice was more interesting, I’ll take black pumps over tights in July.

For one reason or another I’m always giving Zooey a pass.

On this occasion her quirky touch is her two-tone nail polish.

Louis Vuitton’s Spring Collection is this Season’s Cover War Champion With 88 Covers

The past few weeks of scorching temperatures have better aquainted us with what it would feel like to live on the surface of the sun, and you know what that means, right? Fall is here!

Wait a minute…

Let us rephrase. July and August magazines are hitting newsstands, which means the spring/summer collections are on their way out, and fall/winter is on its way in. Such is the speed of fashion, and no one ever accused fashion of being logical. So, with the departure of spring frocks from their glossy pages, it’s time to crown a new magazine cover war winner!

Congratulations to Louis Vuitton, whose fresh, airy eyelets emerged victorious with an impressive 88 covers. The garments certainly produced a few memorable covers moments, from Lana Del Ray’s surprise March Vogue UK cover to seeing double with Kate Moss on the cover of Vogue Japan. Former winner Prada delivered 78 covers, while Dolce & Gabbana made a good showing with 71.

Unfortunately, Louis Vuitton was unable to hit Gucci‘s triple digits from last season, and we’re a bit surprised the Italian brand’s striking gold and black flapper dresses were unable to make the top three for spring. But if the top three are anything to go by, it shows that spring was all about rampant pastels as opposed to showy metallic fringe.

As much as the clothes change each season, the brands taking up the top spots certainly don’t. But why would they? Magazines can and do give priority to advertisers, and when you’re a luxury giant like Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton or Dolce & Gabbana, you tend to have a lot of money to throw around to promote your brand. It’s the way of the luxury clothing industry, haven’t you noticed all the polka-dot covers having to do with a certain Yayoi Kusama X Louis Vuitton collaboration lately? We sure have.

Ready for a quick glance at all the covers from the top 3? Click through.

Louis Vuitton’s 88 covers. That’s a lot of collars.

Prada with 78. That’s actually one more cover than they had when they won spring 2011′s cover war, so well done!

Dolce & Gabbana with 71. How can anyone resist a jewelled bodysuit?
